In the short-term, the BWI has already been asked to provide critical notes at several national and international fora, such as:
- January 2003: In Asian Social Forum, Hyderabad, India, BWI presented papers in seminars on �water� and �business ethics� organised by ICMICA/Pax Romana.
- December 2002�February 2003: BWI conducted policy and empirical research on privatisation in three sectors of essential services in Indonesia �water, health and electricity.
- February 2003: Supported by the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) and Jakarta Legal Aid (LBHJ), BWI organised a Round Table Discussion (RTD), presenting the result of abovementioned research on privatisation of essential services. The RTD was covered by 5 major medias: Kompas, The Jakarta Post, TEMPO, Suara Pembaruan and Bisnis Indonesia.
- March 2003: During the 3rd World Water Forum, Kyoto, BWI presented a paper in a seminar on �business ethic in water sector�.
- March, April, May 2003: Sponsored by TIFA Foundation, BWI organised three regional workshops (at provincial level) on the democratisation of business practices for NGOs, CSOs, government, media and business practitioners in Solo (Central Java & Yogyakarta province), Medan (North Sumatra province) and Denpasar (Bali province).
- May 2003: Invited by Third World Network (TWN) and EcoNews Africa, BWI joined the GATS Strategy Meeting at Nairobi, Kenya.
- June�September 2003: Collaborating with the Institute for Global Justice (IGJ), BWI undertook a preliminary, empirical research on GATS and its implications in Indonesia. The collaboration was sponsored by 11.11.11 (Triple Eleven, Belgium).
- Starting September 2003: Funded by NOVIB (Oxfam the Netherlands) under the Small Project Fund (SPF), BWI has been carrying out researches and publication on �Challenging Corporate-led Globalisation�, focussing on the issue of liberalisation and privatisation of essential services in Indonesia. The activities would result in some
- September-December 2003: In cooperation with SOMO The Netherlands, BWI has been undertaking researches on financial sector and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in Indonesia. The researches aim at giving portraits of the roles of financial sector in political-economic development and looking at possibilities to yield the civil society participation in fostering CSR issue as a tool to control and democratise the exercise of business power.
- June 2003: Sponsored by HBF, BWI attended the workshop in Chiang Mai to find/look at the alternatives of water privatisation. The workshop was also an initiative to start the Asia-Europe Water Justice Network.
- September 2003: Invited by NOVIB in its partners meeting, BWI presented a paper on Globalisation and Corporate Social Responsibility as a key-note address.
- October 2003: Supported by the The Jakarta Post, BWI organised a Round Table Discussion, presenting the preliminary research on financial sector in the editor-office of The Jakarta Post daily.
- October 2003: Although physically absent, BWI contributed a paper on �Alternatives of water privatisation� in a meeting of Asia-Europe Water Justice Network, jointly organised by TNI (TransNational Institute) and CEO (Corporate Europe Observatory) in Amsterdam.
- November 2003: Supported by HBF and PDAM (State Owned Water Company in Surakarta), BWI conducted a Public Consultation on Water Resources Management to verify and validate the result of a research on Alternatives of Water Privatisation. The research aims at contributing an Asia-Europe initiative (in forms of network of advocacy) in responding to privatisation of water resources management and looking at alternatives.
- December 2003: in partnership with Human Rights Working Group (HRWG) and KontraS (Commission on Disappearances and Victims of State�s Violences), BWI organised a workshop preparing the intervention of Indonesian NGOs to the 60th UNCHR meeting
(April 2004 in Geneva) in Solo. In particular, BWI presented a paper on Economic-Social (Ecosoc) Human Rights during the workshop.
- May 2002-now: BWI contributes regularly for the English media, i.e. The Jakarta Post, in average twice to three times a month, mostly in section of �opinion� �for the purpose of dissemination and public campaign on business sector.
